Getting Our Sea Legs...
So far the first few weeks of our Tarpon Preschool summer have been some of the best days in my life...also some of the most tiring. Gabriel and I have spent almost every day on the water. The weather has moved too close this week so we've cut a few days short and started late a few times too, but we've made it out most of the time. We spend most of the day swimming, having snacks, and counting Tarpon as they swim a cast and a half away from the boat. We talk about things like the fact that girls don't like to talk about poop, and why do lady fish always poop on the boat? We are truly having fun!
Gabe suffered his first boating injury, from the cooler, which he is telling everyone is a shark bite. He insisted that I replace the orange ball of fly line at the end of his rod with an actual fly. Eventually I gave in.
After clipping the hook off just at the feathers, I tied it to his leader. He was loving dancing it in the water until a Spanish Mackerel came up and clipped it off with its sharp teeth. He really wants to catch a fish, so that's what we're going to work on next week.
Check in with us next week.
