Here Fishy, Fishy, Fishy
We’ve been to the Dunedin Library a few more times this week. Gabe always has such a good time meeting his friends, playing on the playground and, of course, having snacks! I’ve been doing a lot of night fishing, trying to get every opportunity for a shot at the silver king that I can!
· At extreme low tide on Caladesi Island you can post up on the bar on the north tip and walk for 50 yards looking around for sand dollars and returning stranded conch shells
to the water.
· Manatees have “hair” on their noses.
· Basic addition and subtraction is something we have been working on. He does pretty well with sums less than 7 and differences less 3. That’s working figuratively though, using our imaginations not counting it out with objects; though we have also reinforced mathematics with that method before.
I think talking about adding and subtracting, literally showing him with blocks or other objects, and then reinforcing those concepts yet again with the play exchange of money as “store owner” and “customer”, all contribute to his understanding of basic mathematics, but also begin to shape his sense of logic and order in things.
